Early Access Review
Beat my first play-through of the current non-meta content.
3rd boss felt easier than the 2nd, just because of how difficult the second boss is.
Feels like success is a bit of rng + skill based more than meta progression. Certain relic items break the game.
If you route to avoid combat you won't level up and if you route to meta items, you won't gear up enough for the run.
Don't sleep on the bad skills/spells there is a use for everything even if it's a niche one time use. The common skills are more often useful than the mythic ones. For example: Copycat is terrible or game breaking depending on team composition. (Two fallen knights at once is crazy)
The mage is just a terrible combat unit unless you invest heavily into upgrading his spells, but he can teleport an ally so might be good for some creative strategies. (Maybe to turn off the beacon in the clone fight)

I think there is something wrong with the counter attack system, when countering the damage is always reduced. If you have the MC's ability to counter first, s/he "counters" with a full damage attack and the enemy units hit for reduced damage as if they were the ones counter attacking. It makes the ability op and amazing for the zombie horde fight, but definitely feels like the counter damage should be equal to a normal attack in all instances. Especially with how many ways there are for the player and AI to avoid being countered in the first place, I think the player should be able to hit with full damage for setting up a good counter.

Great visuals, comedy, and character dialogue.

Still wish the POV character had their own VA and dialogue. Summarized dialogue feels bad.

If you liked the strategy element of Dungeon of the Endless, this game is a disappointment.
Limited array of characters, completely removed the concept of melee specialists and melee weapons. Gear is no longer an upgrade investment but a matter what flavor element do you want to shoot.
Floors are limited to very few generators, removing the option to play at a higher level of risk and strategy. It really feels like a shoe-in of the original mechanic. The Dust mechanic is also toned down to the point where it's unnecessary to include. The merchant is also underwhelming.
The game is so easy it's boring. The monsters spawn at fixed locations, trivializing turret strategy. There are so few doors to open, they had to remove using them as a way to progress the research mechanic.
My hopes for this game where to be like Dungeon of the Endless but with more control over characters giving it a skill challenge on top of the already amazing strategy challenge we enjoyed. Endless Dungeon is a bare minimum reference to the strategy and themes of the first with flashy graphics and voice acted characters.
Edit:
While the game is a disappointment to my expectations, I still gave it a second chance and I can see why they simplified some of the original mechanics to fit into an action style game.
Putting my expectations aside, this game is enjoyable. However, my review will remain negative until more characters are added, among which they focus on adding melee specialists. The fact that they don't have this feels like they sacrificed a huge game play and content component of the game to instead focus on marketability by hiring voice actors, but lowering costs from hiring voice actors by having only six playable characters.

Alright, if you have a lot of free time and like hyperrealistic combat. Which means camping a bunker or getting shot the moment you step out of cover.
