Obama bombed Yemen. Trump bombed Yemen. Biden is now bombing Yemen. All three are war criminals who break their own laws to wage war against civilians.
Those of you contemplating voting for Elizabeth Warren, please read this.
In 2015, I was living in Massachusetts & Warren was my senator. The military intervention began in Yemen, my country of birth, & was wreaking havoc on civilians. But this wasn't just Saudi's war.
I'm still trying to process that 24 hours ago, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates disabled an entire country's internet service while committing various massacres around #Yemen and this isn't top news everywhere.
Obama: If you’re a Muslim American and you’re upset about what’s happening in the Middle East, why would you put your faith in somebody who passed a Muslim ban and repeatedly suggested that you aren’t part of our American community?
Using "Houthi" instead of "Yemeni" allowed the US, Saudi, & UAE to starve Yemenis & bomb roads, schools, hospitals, homes, power stations, heritage sites, air/sea ports, etc. with complete impunity. Israel is using the same language, and western media is happy to comply.
As a Yemeni-American, let me remind those arguing that Harris will be better for Yemen:
Obama bombed Yemen from 2009-2017.
Trump bombed Yemen from 2017-2021.
Biden and Harris are bombing Yemen RIGHT NOW.
They're all responsible for murdering and starving millions of Yemenis.
Unlike Warren, @BernieSanders fought for this still relatively unknown war to end. His progressive policies are not limited to our country's borders, and for that reason, I became a citizen two weeks ago to vote for Bernie in the Michigan primary next week. #Bernie2020
If you're wondering why Yemenis, myself included, are staunch anti-imperialists, this was the reality of generations of Yemenis under British colonial rule in South Yemen.
In 21 days, Yemen will run out of fuel. Hospitals will shut down. Clean water won't be pumped.
In 97 days, Yemen will run out of wheat.
In 111 days, Yemen will run out of rice.
The US/Saudi/UAE coalition is committing mass murder by blockading #Yemen.
The US does't get "dragged" into wars. Obama wasn’t dragged into bombing Yemen for the Saudis. Biden wasn't dragged into supporting genocide in Gaza. And Trump won't be dragged into a war with Iran for Israel. When the U.S. joins a war, it's a policy choice, not a mishap.
Months later, @BernieSanders invoked the War Powers Act in the Senate along @ChrisMurphyCT & @SenMikeLee. Never had Congress before then, asserted its constitutional authority over war. I watched Bernie encounter countless hurdles, yet never giving up on the bill.
She replied, noting the US was "working through the United Nations to reach a political solution." This was a blatant lie. Political solutions don't involve bombs.
She declared support for the Saudi-led bombing: "I support U.S. efforts, in cooperation with our allies..."
When I think about Warren's response to my letter, I have to stop myself from resenting her & all those who actively supported this war. They chose party politics over human lives. They prioritized their support for Saudi allies over the Constitution they swore to uphold.
As a Yemeni, this question scares me because I know most world leaders don't care about human suffering. There is no upper limit that will move them to act. Only collective activism that threatens their power will move them to call for a ceasefire.
