i18n and l10n are important contributions to WordPress as an Open Source project. Having WordPress available in all languages makes it accessible to everyone.

This panel discussion will focus on the Polyglots team’s efforts in India and the possible direction of WordPress translations in a diverse country like India with so many languages with so many varieties of scripts.

September 3, 2020 — WordPress ist keine deutschsprachige Software. Die gesamte Entwicklung findet auf Englisch stattfindet, der ganze Text im Interface ist auf Englisch angelegt und viele der Entwicklerinnen und Entwickler von Plugins und Themes sprechen kein einziges Wort Deutsch.

Trotzdem genießen wir den Luxus, WordPress (beinahe) komplett auf Deutsch nutzen zu können und uns im Alltag wenig Gedanken um die Übersetzung von Button-Beschriftungen und Erklärungen im WordPress-Interface machen zu müssen. Matze Kittsteiner zeigte uns bei unserem Meetup im September, wie WordPress deutsch „lernt“, wer an den Übersetzungen arbeitet und wie jede(r) von uns selbst mithelfen kann.
