I caught his concert at Savvis Center in St. Louis Wednesday night, and it was just unbelieveable. He sounds just as amazing as if it was still 1985. His touring band are all fantastic, and he himself is one of the greatest guitar players in any genre of music I've ever heard. I'm not the kind of person who records the playlist, but he did a lot of his music from his hit period, and even some from before the Controversy album (note that there was an extended 10-minute jam on "Controversy" at the concert I attended). He did some hits pretty close to the studio cuts, but some he did some radical reinterpretations of some stuff, including solo acoustic guitar versions of "7," "Cream," and "Little Red Corvette." In the end, an amazing concert that everyone who really loves great music by one of the most amazing individuals to ever record should try and go see. I assure you that every dollar of the ticket price is so worth it, and as a neat little bonus you get a copy of Prince's new CD Musicology when you go to the concert. I can't tell you in words how amazing the concert was! |
