不同意性交で妊娠末期の主人公の Teganは，吹雪の中を弟に会いにゆく途上，車が吹きだまりにつっこんで足を骨折．身動きできなくなったところ，運良く大男のHankに助けられ，森の中の一軒家に住む元看護婦の妻Pollyが親切に看病してくれたまでは良かったのだが，なぜか病院に連れて行ってくれず地下室に監禁され．．． どこかで読んだことがあるような筋立てだが，著者は現役の医師で，医学知識が巧みに使われている．最後に（途中で予測可能ではあるが）意外なドンデン返しが待っている．

ジャンルとしてはサイコスリラーだが，女性作家ならではの，ちょっとほのぼの系の要素も混じっており，ハラハラしながらも安心して読める．他にも同系統の佳作が多数あるらしい．ストレートな娯楽小説としておすすめ．

期待を持ちすぎて読み始めたので、plot twistに対して、あ、こんだけ？という感覚はありましたが、最後までtwistが続くので、全部予測できたから面白くない、という評価までには至りません。

んーでもやっぱりThe House Maidとかと比べてしまうと物足りなさはあります。。まあでも、愛がテーマの心温まるいいお話という面ではとても良いです！サスペンス面では、、伏線が分かりやすすぎるのと、読者に期待を抱かせる場面が多い割には少し捻りが弱い？とは思いました。でも後味良く読み終えれました！

この作家の英文は英語が第一言語でない読者にとって極めて読みやすいですが、今回はさらにそれを感じました。ストーリーも分かりやすくて没頭しやすく（これまでは複数の登場人物の視点が入れ替わって話が展開されていきましたが、この小説はヒロインの一人称が続きます）、ハラハラしながら思わず読み進めてしまいます。ネタバレは避けたいのですが、作品の雰囲気は斬新だと感じました。

Freida McFaddenが凄いと思うのは、新たに読む作品が常に最高傑作のように思えること。

本作品は、恐らくスティーヴン・キングのミザリーがモチーフになっていて、設定も似ている。つまり交通事故で動けない被害者を監禁する加害者という構図。ただし、監禁する目的は「作家に本を書かせること」ではなく、全く違うものである。さらにストーリーは意外な方向に展開し、いくつもの「ひねり」が待っている。最後まで飽きずに一気に読めた。

概ねの進行は予測可能。

外科医の著者らしき薬、病気、骨格、筋肉等の英語は、ウイキする必要あった。他の作品のように、もう一捻りの展開あれば星４つ。

Happy Thriller Thursday Book Pals 🙌🏼

Well that was a fun little palate cleanser I didn’t know I needed!!

I just love a good popcorn thriller and this filled me over the top !! 🍿

This was such a page turner for me , but it was different than other Frieda books I’ve read as I knew the plots for this one, but it still gave me that anxious feeling I get when reading thrillers which I love 👀

This was hard for me to put down and if life hadn’t got in the way I would have finished it in one sitting. It had a locked room thriller vibe and was atmospheric at the same time .

Tegan is 8 months pregnant and she’s a single mom to be and she’s just crashed her car 🚘 and in the middle of a snow storm ❄️

I big scary looking burly of a man has come to help , but Tegan is scared for her life as he takes her to his cottage where his wife Polly is .

Polly used to be a nurse 👩‍⚕️ but she can no longer practice and wants desperately for a child of her own ( you see where this going)

I loved the dual POV between Polly and Tegan , they both had their own delusional thoughts and the assumptions were perfectly played through out this twisty story .

I literally was on the edge of my seat the entire time and now I know I can trust this author to deliver an addictive nonsensical wild thriller Every time ! I also absolutely enjoyed the ending despite what others think , for Freida it was fresh and a pleasant surprise and can’t wait to jump into my next McFadden read 🙌🏼

I've just finished reading "the crash" by Freida McFadden, let me tell you what I thought.

Tegan, a 23 year old soon to be single mother. After getting pregnant after having a one night stand with a man she didn't even know his name of.. She's struggling, money is severely tight. So much so that she works a lot of double shifts at the grocery store. But, things are getting better, after finding out who she had the one night stand with.. None other then business mogul Simon Lamar, she is to get a boatload of money, after some finalising alterations on the NDA agreement.

Jackson, who is Simon's attorney, has the contract ready and he and Simon visit with Tegan to get it all authenticated with signatures.. But then.. After smelling his cologne, the memory of said one night stand return and it WASN'T consensual. Tegan downright declined to sign the NDA after screaming "you raped me!"

With everything that's piling up and being emotionally drained she and her brother Dennis decide she needs to skip town a bit, she will be staying at Dennis' for a while. It's a couple hours drive to get there and there's a blizzard on the way..

Just an hour or so to go, the snow is coming down hard and then BANG!

After being saved from her car by a big And scary man called Hank, he takes her to his house and reassures her that his wife is a nurse and they will call for an ambulance in the morning..

That morning turns into days, with her being kept in a hospital room setting basement. Confined to bed, heavily pregnant and with a fractured ankle. Eventually after 4 days, one of the two sees the light and takes Tegan to a hospital when the other is out to get some medication.. Then the plottwist hits and I just can't believe what I've just read.. But then again, maybe I can believe it.. I just don't want to.

Yes, I liked reading the book.. The whole kidnapping and being imprisoned in a basement was kind off a lot. But then again, everything Freida writes is kind of.. A lot. I have to say that I've kinda read it and am not as excited for her books like I used to be. So, it's a 3,5 stars from me.

I love Freida McFadden's books and I particularly enjoyed this one.

At first I wondered if it was copied by "Misery" but that was not the case.

As usual, the book is full of twists which keep you costantly on the hedge of your seat.

I also liked the ending so I am satisfied.

My wife said she enjoyed it immensely. Couldn't put it down.
