    An excellent account of a very little known, but crucial battle at the beginning of Hitler's assault into western Europe. The author provides great detail regarding both the German attackers and the Belgian defenders. The maps, diagrams, and photographs provide valuable insights that help illuminate the text. This is a "soldier's account" that reveals much regarding individual experiences, and makes it an exceptional "must read". I have personally visited the Eben Emael fortress on several occasions, to include a guided tour of the interior with Belgian veterans and their families. This book contributed much to my understanding of the action, and gave me a much greater appreciation of the soldiers' experiences on both sides. Moreover, this account would be great material for a screenwriter to develop into a full-length movie, following the spirit of great productions such as "Saving Private Ryan", "Blackhawk Down", and "Das Boot".

    It is beautifully written with real descriptions of what actually happened and how the shock to the West made the people of the U.S. realize they had to join Britain in opposing the Germans.
