Echo Kids Edition is a Must Buy!
Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2020This was such a good buy for two boys, 8 and 9, they use it daily to listen to music, play games (especially the Spongebob and Ghostbusters Challenge), listen to bedtime stories, set timers for brushing teeth or reading, Lullabies/sleep sounds and so much more. The Echo Kids Edition perfectly filters kid friendly things and I am so happy with this purchase. I really feel like I’m getting my money’s worth out of it with how much my kids use it, I’ve even caught them asking it about weather and history related things. The sleep sounds are really cool, they are able to pick more than one sound at a time; they particularly enjoy the ‘rain and cats purring’ combo which I find hilarious... but I have to admit the combination is pretty relaxing. They also use it to call me on my phone when I’m out of the house and their dad isn’t letting them get away with things lol or to reach their grandparents (they have the app and an echo at their house). If they’re engrossed with something upstairs it’s so easy to use our Alexas downstairs to call them down without having to shout five thousand times. I absolutely love it, and my kids do too. Highly recommend this product.

Best gift ever
Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2020Best gift i ever gave my 6 yr old granddaughter! Its like buying a very safe companion for her. She is an only child. She can call me or leave me a message anytime as well. She loves that!!! I love that!! I love leaving her little messages!! Alexa will also just send her a hug (a few soft chimes that she knows is a hug) from me. GREAT GIFT!!
She has figured out the commands that make her life better. She listens to stories, plays games, even hide and seek. (That's a kick - she thinks of a place and Alexa finds her by asking questions!) She chooses meditation type music to go to sleep to every night. Alexa will wake her in the morning, remind her to take her vitamins and brush her teeth and the things she needs for school. It will remind her whenever and for whatever! Best gift I ever bought! Makes her happier and life easier for her parents, and more communication with me!

Mom and Daughter approved
Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2020I bought this at my local Bestbuy store but oddly enough, amazon is now asking me to review it so here I am.
Echo dot for kids is amazing. Sound quality is perfect. Recognizes any voice. My daughter will say “Alexa, play (sings random words in the correct right tunes)” and Alexa plays the right song for her. I was amazed.
You can set up multiple alarms, cancel one or multiple alarms, set up alarms for weekends only, weekdays, etc.
you can ask her to play a lullaby or read a story.
No explicit songs or songs with curses are allowed either. Example: truth hurts by lilo is not allowable to be played on this echo for kids.
They’re not allowed to order anything on amazon.
The only problem we get is sometimes, it gets disconnected from our WiFi and I have to go back to the app to reset things. And you’ll know if this happens. Alexa will tell you. My daughter came up to me and said, “Mom, Alexa said she cannot connect to the internet. You need to fix her.”
Overall, my daughter likes using it. Although she doesn’t use it all the time, she still likes it.

Perfect Birthday Gift for 7yo
Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2020We bought this for our daughter as an experiment in independence. She now uses it as her alarm to wake her up in the morning and loves the fun voices that can wake her up. She also uses it to play relaxing music at bedtime, which allows her to calm down and fall asleep quicker. I’m happy with it for those two things alone, but it also reads her stories, plays music, and tells her jokes... all things she loves. Great purchase and was so easy because (while you do need to set it up to your account and tweak a few things to your liking) all the parental controls were set up for you.

Great for kids and really good parent controls, a few shortcomings
Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2020Purchased this for grandsons as Christmas present, hid it and had a character wake them on Christmas morning (thought it would be a good idea, but for kids to hear a strange voice coming from 'nowhere' in the early morning hours can be a shock- a good idea, in theory, not-so-good outcome...). The device works well, it's basically "Alexa" w/ some software-based filters making it suitable for kids.
What I learned:
. In set up, name it all your kid's names; ie "Jack and Jill's Echo", though you can add multiple kids, there's no way to track each kid's activities because their acct is in the software- unless you make them (one of them) the owner of the Alexa... it can't switch between children so it's a moot point to track their activities as individual kids.
. If you have another Echo in the home change the 'wake up' name, which can create its own problems because the instruction booklet tells the kids to say "Alexa, (whatever the skill they want it to perform)..."
. Parental controls are really good; pausing, do not disturb, wake up alarms, etc. but adding content from audible, music, etc accounts can be problematic.
. . I like the parental controls, but I don't know if all the things that the 'built-in' controls do cannot be done manually, I guess I'll cross that learning curve bridge when the membership renewal comes due.
Like:
. Relatively easy setup (especially if you already are familiar w/ Echos)
. Ability to remote control devices auto-off time, etc
Dislike:
. The mystery of "how much will this cost?" to renew membership
. No way (that I could see) to track individual kid's activity
. . No 'Craig of the Creek' characters in the character name options...
Overall, it's worth the purchase, but if you're savvy enough you may be able to convert an existing Echo (or the kid's Echo after the free year expires) into what this Echo provides- or close to it.

Fun for Kids
Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2020My 7 year old son asked for an Alexa and we all just thought it was silly. But, for Christmas I decided to get him the kids one and get myself one too. I thought the intercom would be a huge help and the guard your home feature sounded great. Long story short, we now have 3 echos, over 6 smart bulbs, and four smart plugs! We are sold on Alexa! The kid edition is great fun for him with the games and she can even read stories. The truely helpful part is if he has a bad dream or needs me, instead of screaming in terror until I get there, he's able to turn on his own light and just drop in and speak to me! He's calmer and sleeps through the night better now. Teeth brushing also used to be a fight, but now Alexa has his routine set up and he's so happy to do his chore chart or brush his teeth without arguing. Some reviews have a lot of negative things about how they go in and out, and sure, if your wifi is spotty you may need a wireless extender. We have DSL, not even cable, and no complaints. As long as our internet is solid, the echo dots work great. I have recommended these to my friends with kids because they are so much fun and can help the kids be a little more independent with their light switches and routines.

More than we imagined
Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2020We got this as a gift for our daughter after hearing positive things from other parents. I was wary of it bringing anything new to the table since we already have a tablet and several gaming systems. But the Dot definitely has a niche of its own. Our daughter (age 8) uses it to play music and games, to ask questions, and to play “sleep sounds” that help her relax at night. Alexa will also occasionally recommend new things (like games or different “sleep sounds”) that keep it fresh. Even if we hadn’t gotten it at the fantastic Cuber Monday price, it would be worth it. A great little gadget!

Much better for kids than a regular Alexa!
Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2020We love our new kids' alexa and we are ordering another one. My 4 and 5 year old daughters love having Alexa play music for them, and now, Alexa can be their whitenoise machine at night, read them a bedtime story to send them off to sleep, or even initiate a dance party for them using Kids' Bop music. I like that there are kid settings. My girls were calling random numbers from our other alexa devices not knowing what they were doing, and this has controls to control who they can dial, and a better voice recognition system. We programmed a good wake up message for our 5 year old and will do the same for our 4 year old to get them excited for the day ahead in the mornings.
