South Carolina Commission on Higher Education approves Doctor of Physical Therapy program
The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (SCCHE) has approved the development of a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Coastal Carolina University (CCU). The program is pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

Accreditation
CCU is seeking CAPTE accreditation for a new physical therapist education program. The program plans to apply for candidacy, the formal application required for the pre-accreditation stage, in Spring 2026. This notice does not assure that the program will be granted Candidate for Accreditation status. Achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status is required before implementation of the professional phase of the program; therefore, no students may be enrolled until Candidate for Accreditation status has been achieved. Further, although achieving Candidate for Accreditation status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation, it does not guarantee the program will be granted accreditation.
CAPTE, the accreditation agency, will place CCU's program in a review cycle and will set a date for accreditation review. Please note this process is lengthy. We look forward to adding this program to our degree inventory and will update our website as new information becomes available.
