A Historic Campus with Surprising Beauty

Emory & Henry set its foundation on purchased farmland near a natural spring in 1836. For nearly two centuries, Emory & Henry has provided quality higher education in Southwest Virginia. Being the region’s oldest campus for higher learning, its location is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Our campus, located in the Appalachian highlands, is surrounded by the region’s picturesque mountains, forests and valleys giving students a relaxing, rural environment for studying and university life. Hundreds of students, faculty and staff make up the campus community. Whether strolling through campus or in the classroom, new friends can be made and friendly greetings can be easily found.
Our campus community and visitors can enjoy the historic buildings—each marked by year erected—and seasonal scenery by strolling through the walking trail systems. A favorite location for many is the Duck Pond, which is fed by a natural spring and attracts ducks all year round. The village of Emory, Va. includes attractions such as a student apartment community, gift shop and bookstore, and the Emory Cemetary.

Student Success plays a crucial role in Emory & Henry’s tradition of academic excellence. Our campus has multiple buildings housing classrooms, arts studios and laboratories.

Approximately 86% of a student’s time is spent outside of the classroom. On our campus, we make it count! We make sure we provide a great place for students to live and make memories.
Housing & Residence Life
Emory & Henry provides options for student housing based on a student’s individual needs or special interests. As a residential campus, most of our students live on campus. Whether it’s wanting to find friends with your interests in our themed living communities or wanting to find a place to live offering exciting activities, our residential community will provide a unique experience you will not want to miss out on.
Van Dyke Center Dining Hall
The Van Dyke Center’s Dining Hall has rotating menu items that fit every student’s dietary needs for every meal. The dining hall offers buffet-style dining, and food can either be enjoyed at the table inside the building or grabbed on the go. Our other places to get food on campus, including Stinger’s Cantina, The Hut, The Zone and Simply to Go offer to-go food that’s great for those who are in a hurry.

Campus Engagement for Alumni, Friends and the Local Community

People love supporting the students of Emory & Henry! Alumni and visitors come from all over to watch athletic events and attend community events happening on the Emory campus. The Emory Mercantile sells E&H merchandise, apparel, books by faculty and alumni authors, school supplies and snacks. The Emory community also has options for dining including Piazza, an Italian restaurant and Hot Shots Coffee Bar.

Athletics Facilities
Our campus is growing! We recently constructed facilities that offer expanded campus living and learning opportunities for students. Our 96-person apartment-style housing community is newly constructed in the nearby community of Meadowview, Va. The new start-of-the-art Food City Sports Complex is seen from the I-81 corridor in Emory. The Sports Complex is home to Emory & Henry athletics, including soccer and track & field.
