Le varan orné est le seul lézard de grande taille au Gabon. Il peut exceptionnellement atteindre 2,2 mètres de long. Nommé pat les biologistes "Varanus orants" il est classé dans la famille des Varanidés.
Le varan est un carnassier....
Y a pas à dire, quand on prend quelques jours de congé on se retrouve hors du temps...

Albert Schweitzer et sa femme Hélène arrivent à Lambaréné le 16 avril 1913. Sur le terrain de la mission évangélique parisienne d’Andendé, Albert Schweitzer fonde son premier hôpital. Il débute son activité de médecin dans un vieux poulailler qu’il transforme bientôt en salle d’opération. Avec les modestes moyens dont il dispose, il ajoute de petits pavillons en bambou pour accueillir et soigner les malades. Peu après ces débuts, une quarantaine de patients en quête de soins se présentent à lui tous les jours. Son épouse occupe les fonctions d’intendante et d’infirmière, et un Africain l’assiste tout en lui servant d’interprète. Plus tard, à la demande des missionnaires, Schweitzer les aide dans leurs prédications. Pendants ses rares loisirs, il s’exerce sur le piano offert par la Société Bach de Paris.

The Western Gabon Viper (due to their beautiful coloring, these animals are also called "butterfly vipers" ) is the heaviest venomous snake in the world with a length of 2 m and more than 10 kg.

The Western Gabon Viper does not lay eggs.
