Applying for Google's Software Engineering Summer Internship for 2025 was an intense yet rewarding journey filled with challenges and growth opportunities. The process included multiple stages, from the initial application to technical interviews, each designed to assess different aspects of a candidate's skills and knowledge. Although I faced some difficulties along the way and ultimately did not secure the position, the experience was invaluable and motivated me to continue improving.
Application Process
I applied off-campus through Google Careers and reached out to connections for referrals. I was ecstatic when I received an email stating that my resume had been shortlisted. This initial success boosted my confidence as I prepared for the upcoming stages.
Round 1: Screening Round
The first round was a 15-minute screening call with a recruiter. The conversation covered my background, favorite programming languages, and project details. It was a brief but crucial step, setting the stage for the more challenging rounds ahead.
Round 2: Technical Interview 1
The first technical interview lasted about 45 minutes. It began with a brief introduction, followed by a coding problem focused on dynamic programming. While I managed to solve the initial problem and pass all the test cases, I struggled with the follow-up questions. Despite the difficulties, this round was a valuable learning experience, highlighting areas for improvement in my problem-solving approach.
Round 3: Technical Interview 2
The second technical interview was even more challenging, involving a hard-level coding problem on graphs. I managed to come up with a solution but couldn't optimize it within the time limit. Additionally, I faced difficulties with some follow-up questions, which left me feeling uncertain. Ultimately, I received a rejection email, which was disappointing but not entirely unexpected.
