Tech Mahindra Placement Experience | For Assistant Software Engineer

Last Updated : 16 Dec, 2024

I recently completed my placement process with Tech Mahindra and am excited to share my journey. The process involved five rounds: an assessment test, coding round, communication test, technical interview, and HR interview. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of each round.

Application Process

The process began by applying for the job through my college's placement cell. Shortlisting was based on resume screening, after which shortlisted candidates were invited for further rounds.

Round 1: Assessment Test

This round consisted of:

  • Sections:
    • Verbal ability.
    • Logical reasoning.
    • Numerical problems (e.g., averages, boats and streams, simple and compound interest, percentages).
  • Duration: 100 minutes.
  • Nature: This was an elimination round.

After clearing the assessment, candidates were required to complete an essay writing test. While this was not an elimination round, it was mandatory to attempt.

Round 2: Coding Round

This round tested basic coding skills. Some of the questions I faced were:

  1. Reverse a text string.
  2. Convert a decimal number to binary.

Key Tip: You can clear this round by solving at least one problem with all test cases passing.

After clearing the coding round, I received an email to complete the communication test within a given timeframe.

Round 3: Communication Test

This round assessed communication skills and included:

  1. Listening and Answering: Listening to audio clips and answering related questions.
  2. Reading and Speaking: Reading sentences aloud.
  3. Error Detection and Correction: Correcting blank or error-filled sentences and speaking them aloud.
  4. Topic Presentation: Preparing and presenting a given topic within an allocated time.

Candidates who cleared this round were invited for the technical interview.

Round 4: Technical Interview

The technical interview was conducted by a panel, and the questions included:

  • Introduction: A brief self-introduction.
  • Project Description: Explanation of my academic projects.
  • Strengths and Weaknesses: Personal attributes and areas of improvement.
  • Coding Question: Writing a program to check if a number is a prime number.

After clearing the technical interview, candidates were invited to the final HR interview.

Round 5: HR Interview

The HR interview was friendly and comfortable. The panel asked:

  1. Tell us something about yourself that is not mentioned in your resume.
  2. Group Discussion: A group of four candidates was given a topic to discuss, and active involvement was essential.
  3. General Questions:
    • Are you willing to relocate?
    • Are you comfortable working in shifts (day or night)?

The panel created a welcoming atmosphere, making it easier to answer confidently.

Final Outcome

After successfully clearing all the rounds, I received the offer letter.

  • Regular Offer Package: ₹3.25 LPA.
  • Supercoder Package: ₹5.5 LPA.

Key Takeaways:

  • Prepare Well: Focus on clearing the elimination rounds like the assessment and coding tests.
  • Be Confident: Whether it’s the technical or HR interview, confidence and clear communication are essential.
  • Resume Accuracy: Ensure your resume highlights skills you are confident about, as questions will revolve around them.

The entire process was smooth, and I appreciated the supportive panel during the interviews. Good luck to everyone preparing for Tech Mahindra or similar opportunities!
