That's the Dolly Parton anthem — and the date, Sept. 25 — that New York state Sens. Erik Bottcher and Jeremy Cooney are working to designate as an official state holiday honoring the country music icon, who died last week at 80. Similar efforts are underway in Tennessee, California and Pennsylvania. Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal already proclaimed Sept. 25 Dolly Parton Appreciation Day this week. Parton kept apartments in New York, wrote the score for "9 to 5: The Musical" at the Marquis Theatre in 2009 and earned a Tony nomination, and her Imagination Library provided free monthly books to more than 170,000 New York children. The legislation will be introduced when the Legislature reconvenes in January.
