Donkey and Pony Dentals

Campaign by Dean Farm Trust

Twelve of our equines and donkeys need essential dental work this month. Some carry lasting issues from a previous life. They can’t tell us when it hurts. This care keeps them eating comfortably, healthy and free from painful conditions.

Closes 12/05/2026

Dean Farm Trust provides a home for life to ill-treated, neglected and unwanted animals. These include donkeys, pigs, hens sheep and ponies. We promote compassionate living by providing information on animals used in factory farming, sports and entertainment.

Story

Dental Care for Our Twelve Equines & Donkeys 💚

At the end of this month, Twelve of our equines and donkeys will be having essential dental work.

Some are now in their later years. Rosie, Hebe and Toadie rely on this care to stay comfortable, to keep their condition, and to continue eating as they should.

Others carry the lasting effects of years before they were safe. Mabel and George need ongoing corrective work — the kind that doesn’t resolve once, but needs returning to, regularly over time.

Sammy and Hannah, our miniature Shetlands, also need regular treatment. Because they have the same number of teeth as larger ponies in a much smaller mouth, problems can develop more easily without consistent dental care. They both have diastemas (an abnormal gap between cheek teeth) which need checking and widening to prevent food packing in the gaps, and help prevent tooth loss and disease.

They will all have sedation, a full examination and rasping as a minimum. They are sedated to keep them as relaxed and comfortable as possible during treatment, and to ensure the work can be carried out thoroughly and safely

Our vet Hannah has been managing dentals for our residents for the past 10 years. She knows them individually, knows their mouths, and understands the history behind the ongoing issues some of them face.

The base cost is £60 per resident before any additional corrective work is needed, and we are hoping to raise £750 towards this essential care.

Dental problems can build quietly, especially in animals who carry on eating even when something is wrong. Regular treatment helps prevent pain, infection and further deterioration. If you can help with any donation we will be so grateful, some of our ponies and donkeys need seeing every 3 or 6 months so any donation will really help us.

Thank you so much

Mary 💚
