ok. now I'm hungry. anyone have a really good and easy key lime pie recipie?
for tonight. just now, I'm at work. I will be at work until 5-ish. Kyle's in town. Norm's off to a cook out at the bjj academy (which is what's happening today after open mat). I will be on desk from noon to 2pm and then be allowed to run out to find lunch. that's 3 hours of starving now. my housemate is convinced I've a 5000 calorie/day diet. so far today I don't think I've topped 200 and been up since 9am. did I mention I'm hungry?

Guga rocks!
I haven't managed to make it out to train all week. Tonight would be the first night I really could 'cause of scheduling and stuff but it's supposed to be vale tudo and I don't so much do that with the boys.
Anyway, my housemate has been turning up a li'l starting back this week just way light drilling.
once upon a time Guga was telling a story about when he had a motorcycle... he doesn't anymore, hasn't for years, but maybe still has the helmet
so my housemate asked and he told my housemate that if he could find his helmet I could borrow it so I could ride 'round on the back of his bike* for a bit
*that being my housemate's pretty new red thing
my bjj professor is better than yours- nyah! nyah! and I guess this means I should stop posting possible helmets, huh?

just for my own reference really:
"Sekanjabin Dissolve 4 cups sugar in 2 1/2 cups of water; when it comes to a boil add 1 cup wine vinegar. Simmer 1/2 hour. Add a handful of mint, remove from fire, let cool. Dilute the resulting syrup to taste with ice water (5 to 10 parts water to 1 part syrup). The syrup stores without refrigeration.
Note: This is the only recipe in the Miscelleny that is based on a modern source: A Book of Middle Eastern Food, by Claudia Roden. Sekanjabin is a period drink; it is mentioned in the Fihrist of al-Nadim, which was written in the tenth century. The only period recipe I have found for it (in the Andalusian cookbook) is called "Sekanjabin Simple" and omits the mint. It is one of a large variety of similar drinks described in that cookbook-flavored syrups intended to be diluted in either hot or cold water before drinking.
Syrup of Simple Sikanjabîn (Oxymel) Andalusian p. A-74
Take a ratl of strong vinegar and mix it with two ratls of sugar, and cook all this until it takes the form of a syrup. Drink an ûqiya of this with three of hot water when fasting: it is beneficial for fevers of jaundice, and calms jaundice and cuts the thirst, since sikanjabîn syrup is beneficial in phlegmatic fevers: make it with six ûqiyas of sour vinegar for a ratl of honey and it is admirable.
This seems to be at least two different recipes, for two different medical uses. The first, at least, is intended to be drunk hot. In modern Iranian restaurants, sekanjabin is normally served cold, often with grated cucumber."

nothing new last night- just open mat- rolled w/ a couple of purple belts & a couple of blue belts... there were 3 white belts around, 1 took off early, and none seemed desperate to try me... two of them I know and have rolled with one was from a very loosely affiliated college bjj club
|
|
|
[04 May 2005|01:16pm] |
right, well, today I'm at work, tonight again bjj
I thought it was 'cause whitebelts were sloppy that they had a tendency to accidentally hit/kick/elbow me when rolling now, I'm getting it from some blue belts and even got elbowed by a surprised brown belt last night... who was incredibly embarassed and apologetic and concerned he might have killed me (probably outweighs me by a good 75lbs)... at the time he'd been bizarrely having a hell of a time trying to sweep me and I was on top & just reaching for his collar for a lapel choke
I get the feeling that it's less about belt level and more about how threatened they're feeling- the more dangerous I look it seems the faster & sloppier they get and the greater the chance of me being clobbered
so I should be flattered when I get kicked, right? and not surprise anyone with anything if I don't want to be slugged, yes?
in other news, I was paired with one of our purple belts for drilling at the beginning of class last night and he's all about teaching me to put more weight on my opponent...

well, so, as y'all probably know the ADCC will have a women's division for the first time this year- Gazzy Parman has been invited to compete and appears to now be selling add space on her ass over ebay... anyone gonna bid?

"Hold my hand and see the world with me?"
recently, it's become more and more obvious that it's more 'hold my hand and come see the world next to me while I look at something completely different' because what I see and know and understand has very little relation to what anyone else sees and knows and understands... most likely even if they use the same words
so really why choose to be alone in company rather than just being alone?

I want to try belly dancing with a bicycle on my head...
|
|
|
[25 Mar 2005|01:46pm] |
|
well, after being away for several months (due to bjj having taken over my world) I went back to belly dance class last night... the experience actually bordered on comical & left me wondering why anyone would want to balance a sword on their head?

[24 Mar 2005|03:30pm] |
I'm incredibly sleepy I'm trapped here filling in until one of my employees can make it in I'm hoping it's soon... like within the next half hour that she makes it here then I think I'll head out and home rather than to the other branch only just to do book ordering anyway... I can do that from any computer with internet access and anytime (before tomorrow morning) so I might do that and nap then make it out for belly dancing I think I'm going to take up going to belly dance classes thursday nights again

ok, I'm late getting in so rather than off to train I think I'll just have dinner and work on cleaning the back room so I can have a roomate move in
|

[16 Mar 2005|12:53pm] |
I want lychee-flavored bubble gum
& I have no clue what lychee is or what it might taste like
|
|
|
[15 Mar 2005|03:31pm] |
ok, I am almost entirely convinced I'm not going to train tonight either...
the excuse: they will not be happy with me if I bring my cold into the academy 4 days before a tournament half of us will be competing in
|
|
|
[13 Mar 2005|03:55pm] |
at work again
seem to have a cold again
have a date w/ Melanie tomorrow night (tentative) to watch ella enchanted on video at her place... which will keep me safely away from the academy an extra night to a. let my back fix itself and b. let my burgeoning head cold decide it doesn't really exist
tonight: dunno what I'm doing for dinner... after that it's either a fire log and reading or it's cleaning out the spare bedroom a sailor is supposed to be bringing me a lovely functional vaccuum at any moment
so, I need a good bookshelf... preferably cheap & light thoughts on acquisition? recommended styles? anyone know good places to order from?
