So I was gonna mention some people I think do the genre they make the best!
I hope you check these guys out because they’re all very talented
For one of my favorite genres
Trance
MXC-Music
Falcon-Music
Dubstep
Voytek-Music
AngelEffect
EDM/ kinda GD sounding
Shabadaman
G2961
DNB/Jungle
SovieticoOfficial
Progressive
Isalick33
NuclearNatoCat
Synthwave
LGmusic
and finally, the first person I ever followed on this account and a good friend of mine
M1ndbreaker
they’re definitely more people and fee free to drop your favs of the modern era!
Since everybody focused on the techno-electro music sphere up until now, I'm gonna change things up a bit :) These are some of my picks from other genres:
ORCHESTRAL
From a purely non-hybrid classical composition standpoint, @hollandalbright for me takes the cake by a longshot; he's fairly "new" to NG, but it's been telling how successful he's been in all contests he's participated in. He's an incredible talent, I can't come up with one bad thing to say about virtually any piece he's published recently, he's been a workhorse! I follow him in other places too, his work rate is kind of intimidating lol
CINEMATIC (EPIC)
@uxvellda is a name I've been hearing quite a lot, no wonder: really great compositions with a helluva lot of fine production going into every song, really tasteful hybrid implementation of electronics. @chipsqueek, though veering more aggressively towards a more industrial and brutalist vibe, doesn't fail to impress me with HYPERlong works, absolutely pounding you to mince meat. I've been following him on IG and discovered he 3d models is own album covers 🤯 can't get more badass than that
CINEMATIC (CHARACTER PORTRAIT)
AKA a chiller, more character-driven, dynamic, and more traditionally Disneyian sound, distinct from blockbuster soundtracks. Since it's one of my favourite genres to indulge in, it's hard to only choose one composer, so it's gonna be a toss-up between @manvineo and @payton-petkus: they're both obviously amazing composers who typically focus on cutesy and lighthearted tracks, both with impeccable instrumentation and arrangement; i can't in good faith put one over the other, so check both of em out!
JAZZ
Quite an underappreciated genre on this website, I find it really hard to discover new artists who go beyond the classic 50s jazz archetype, and it's a shame since modern jazz is a whole other beast. That being said, I did find one artist who checks all my boxes, and that's @staintocton! One of the most insane talents on here, he's been making absolute contemporary bangers that reflect today's jazz trajectory: crazy chords, complex structures, crazy pianist and flugelhorn player, definitely one of my highlights here.
VGM
Videogame music, the landscape is super-saturated so my two picks are not gonna be anything BUT subjective, if y'all have someone else in mind lmk. My two GOATs are @ComposerEvans and @WindStepper. While the former is in general one of the best composers on NewGrounds and knowledgeable in every genre he wants, the latter has been a relentlessly reliable bringer of bangers and a personal self-esteem crusher by just how clean his productions are (if you wanna collab with me let's link up wink wink wink)
FUSION/FUNK
I can't leave my boy FUSION outta this list, nope! It's actually one of the hardest genres to master, and I say this as someone who thinks of being at a respectable competency level. You've gotta know your accents, your chords, your pizzazz and your personal heroes to make GREAT fusion. @fenderhodes (whom I just discovered) has mastered their craft it seems lol
It's not really 'fusion' in the true fashion of the term, but the influences are non-negligible: they have some songs which have been stuck in my head for quite some time, definitely give them a listen!
UP&COMERS
Just wanna give a shout-out to some smaller musicians who I feel should get more recognition:
@hoongtube - found out about them really recently, and I'm blown away everytime they publish a new track, especially given that they do everything in BEEP BOX, WHAT - to my knowledge nobody manages to sound that good on that DAW (or maybe I simply have skills issues lmao)
@esoots - not gonna sugarcoat it: I knew him years ago when we met in a videogame when he was just starting making music; years onwards, he's one of the most talented IDM producers I've ever heard. He's been a friend of mine for quite some time and he only just returned active on NG, so check his stuff out and give him a follow!!
(special mention) THE EVERYMAN
@teffyD, not sure why nobody mentioned him yet lmao
