Video Station WENS to Be CBS Outlet New UHF Plant Scheduled to Begin Operation in August Ultra high frequency television Station WENS will provide a new outlet in Pittsburgh for Columbia Broadcasting System programs when it comes on the air in mid-August, it was announced yesterday. The station. which will tele-| cast on Channel 16. has already announced a basic affiliation with the American Broadcasting Company. Many 'New' Programs According to Larry Israel, of WENS, "a working agreement has been signed with CBS to provide an outlet here for their programs not telecast by WDTV". Although, "for competitive reasons" Israel declined to name specific shows covered under the agreement, he said "it includes many programs never seen in Pittsburgh and several completely new programs scheduled to start on CBS in the fall." All Live Telecasts All the CBS shows will be telecast "live" by WENS, Israel said. The agreement is expected to remain in effect at least until the contest for very high frequency Channel 4 and 11 are settled. Hearings have not even been scheduled by the Federal Communications Commission. It may well be another year before transmissions begin on these VHF channels.
