Two things that put me over the edge on sleep training.

Sleep is a health issue. If your baby isn't sleeping, they're not going to develop as well as if they slept more. You should treat total sleep duration as much as a health issue as brushing their teeth, keeping them from getting sick, etc.

Babies don't know how to sleep. Weird thing to say, but as you get more experienced as a parent you realize how much a baby needs to be taught through imitation/skill acquisition. They don't know how to fall and stay asleep (what a lot of sleep 'training' methods call "self soothing"). It's just a skill. Your job, as a parent, is to teach them the skills they need.
