Why responsibility matters

As Renewable Energy (RE) procurement complexity rises, embedding responsibility is central to managing risks and protecting ESG credibility.

RE buyers can no longer be only passive consumers of clean power, but rather active market shapers influencing 'how' projects are developed.

The Toolkit

Developed under the Responsible Energy Initiative (REI), this toolkit supports buyers in defining and operationalising responsible procurement.

By adopting responsibility in procurement decision making, buyers can address social and environmental risks to support long-term energy resilience.

The toolkit defines four levels of buyer ambition and provides step-by-step guidance to anticipate and address key risks.

It enables a structured, practical approach to progressing towards more responsible procurement.

The toolkit combines these practical components
