UN ODET also serves as the United Nations system-wide focal point for digital and emerging technologies. The Office is headed by United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies Amandeep Singh Gill.

The United Nations Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (UN ODET) is responsible for coordinating the UN system’s engagement on digital and emerging technologies and supports the follow-up and implementation of the Global Digital Compact.
The Global Digital Compact is a landmark agreement adopted at the Summit of the Future in September 2024 that sets out shared principles and commitments for an open, safe and secure digital future for all.
UN ODET’s work focuses on AI Governance, implementation of the Global Digital Compact, and work on Digital Public Infrastructure and Open Source.
Each UN ODET initiative sits within one of the Office’s areas of work. For example, the Global Dialogue on AI Governance and the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI both sit under AI Governance.
