Biography

Sebastian was a Summer Olympics athlete

A former track and field star athlete, a British political leader, and a leader in the international sports community

Sebastian was born in 1956. His birth was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1956 in the Hammersmith district.^[1]He is the son of Percy Newbold Coe and Tina Angela (Lal) Coe.

He became internationally known as a track athlete. He won four Olympic medals, including the 1500 meters gold medals during the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984. He established several world record times in his career.

He served as a member of parliament from 1992 to 1997 for Falmouth in Cornwall. He was made a Life Peer on 16 May 2000 and he serves in the House of Lords. He headed the successful London 2012 Olympic bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics and served as chairman of the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games. He was featured on the UK Who do you think you are? ^[2]

• 1990 - Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
• 2000 - Life Peer as Baron Coe, of Ranmore in the County of Surrey.
• 2006 - Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) for services to sport.
• 2012 - International Association of Athletics Federations Hall of Fame ^[3]
• 2013 - Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour (CH) for services to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
