Harry was born in 1863^[1] in Exning, Suffolk, England, to Eliza Musk. He was christened on 15 Nov 1863 in Exning, Suffolk, England. There was no father mentioned on his baptismal record.^[2]

In 1871 Harry lived with his mother, twin younger brothers, and maternal grandparents, Henry Musk and Charlotte Lane, in Exning.^[3] He worked as an agricultural labourer in 1881.^[4]

Harry Musk married Mary Ann Wyman in 1889 and their marriage was registered in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, England.^[5]

Their son William was born in 1890^[6]

In 1891 Harry was working as a bricklayer and they were living in Tottenham, Middlesex. By 1901, Mary was on her own in Edmonton with two children, William and Ellen.^[7] She was still married, but her husband Harry was not with the family.^[8]

Harry's occupation in 1904 was given as bricklayer, and he lived at 101 Victoria Rd, Woodstock, Cape Town, South Africa.^[9][10] .

By 1917, at the birth of his son Walter Henry James, he was resident in Pretoria, with occupation given as Mason.^[11]

Harry died on 12 September 1917 in Johannesburg, Transvaal Province, South Africa.^[12][13] A copy of his death notice has been transcribed Harry Musk Death Notice. It confirms the identity of his father as unknown, and also seems to imply that he was not married. According to his death records, his living children and their dates of birth at the time of his death in 1917 were:
