Thomas David Nicholls was born on September 16, 1870 in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States.^[1]

Thomas was the district president of District No. 1, United Mine Workers of America from 1899 - 1909.

Thomas was elected to the 60th and 61st Congresses and served 1907-1911.

Thomas married Sarah Hughes. Their children were:^[2]

Thomas died on January 19, 1931 in Princess Anne, Somerset, Maryland, United States, aged 60. He was buried in Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery, Princess Anne.^{[1] [2]}
