The Sony Xperia 5 was announced at IFA 2019, and it's effectively a more compact version of the Sony Xperia 1. A smaller display, a 1080p panel, and the battery are pretty much the only things that differentiate it, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We got to spend some time with the Xperia 5 at IFA, and I made a video for the XDA TV YouTube channel which you can check out below.

First and foremost, the Sony Xperia 5 is literally just a more compact Xperia 1. It has the same cameras, same chipset, same storage configurations... it's pretty much the same device. The battery gets a small downgrade along with the display panel, but that only makes sense. Why is it not called the Sony Xperia 1 Compact then? To be honest, who can say. It's a strange naming decision, although it doesn't take away from the device itself.
It fits in the palm of your hand, a marketing slogan which Sony, to be fair, was correct about. It's definitely difficult to reach the top of the display thanks to the 21:9 aspect ratio, but the device itself can easily be wrapped around your hand. It's a flagship for sure, though without pricing information we don't know how affordable it is yet. Pre-orders start on the 18th of September, so consumers will know by then how much it retails for.
