In honor of today's MOU and all of the success JCPOA opponents had to get us here, this was a thread from October 2017 when Donald Trump -- at your instigation -- said that the JCPOA was no longer worth sanctions suspension, a step toward full revocation. Well done.

To JCPOA opponents and skeptics: Congratulations. You have gotten what you wanted all along. 1/

This is frankly disgusting. I was responsible, directly, for U.S. sanctions against Iran for a long while. I took pride in their development, design and use. But not joy. Having to do this is lamentable and will impose very real, human costs. Take this seriously, please.

Dear everyone who attacked a 150 page document filled with specific commitments, options for snap-back, and negotiated over 2 years by and with experts: please give me your honest appraisal of the integrity of "our handshake" as a verification instrument.

I have confidence that Kim Jong Un will honor the contract we signed &, even more importantly, our handshake. We agreed to the denuclearization of North Korea. China, on the other hand, may be exerting negative pressure on a deal because of our posture on Chinese Trade-Hope Not!

I swear, journalists really miss opportunities for fun. I would totally use such an opportunity to ask him about Freedonia and whether he supports them in their conflict with Sylvania. Money says he embraces Freedonia fully and unreservedly.

Completely beyond parody: Asked if he has a message for Poland on the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, Trump says, "I have a lot of respect for Poland, and as you know the people of Poland like me. And I like them. And I'm going to be going to Poland fairly soon."

Three thoughts, adapted from my book The Art of Sanctions, on the Russia campaign thus far: 1) It's still early days, but the cohesion of the coalition facing Putin right now is remarkable. Coordination has been tight and messaging consistent. 1/9

It should not go unnoticed how swiftly people who argued that we could get a "better deal" with Iran through more sanctions and tougher diplomacy are shifting to advocacy of military options.

If, right now, Rouhani called White House Ops to be put through to Trump, Bolton would throw himself down all three flights of stairs and through about three doors to slam his hand down on the receiver.

You know, I heard of this kind of approach somewhere...don't know where it was used...was told it was appeasing evil though...so, couldn't possibly be part of a negotiating concept for those who would say that...no, they couldn't possibly be that hypocritical...could they? #JCPOA

People have asked if I’m angry about the JCPOA and what’s happened since 2016, and I am. But this is what I find really Infuriating: this idea that they are coming up with solutions that have never been tried and clearly never read the JCPOA before going against it.

I don’t understand how we could be at the brink of military conflict with Iran. After all, we were told JCPOA withdrawal combined with stern facial expressions and “max pressure” would solve all of our problems without creating a risk of said conflict.

Dear doctors: you know how Trump is suggesting on tv patently insane ideas that may get people killed? This is what he’s been doing on foreign policy since day one. Now you know why some of us have had the same jaw-dropping terror of what he will say next in those areas for years
