| ★ This
is one argument based on critical thinking used to refute sophistry,
but let’s consider the point that “it is difficult to prove that
something is absolutely effective or ineffective.” The explanation
behind this argument is actually quite simple: if you can point to a
single exception that negates the implication that “absolutely” means
“every treatment,” then that universal proposition is refuted [1].
Let’s take “All humans will eventually die” and “All psychics can fly”
as examples of universal propositions. The former is a true
proposition; the latter is a false proposition. A statement is
considered true if there are no exceptions that negate “all,” and false
if there are exceptions. However, it is possible to introduce a “trick”
into any statement. The proposition “All psychics can fly” becomes a
fallacy if it is discovered that even one psychic lacks that ability.
Yet, despite the fact that many people hold a religious belief in the
resurrection of the Almighty, the statement “All humans will eventually
die” remains true. This is because the truth of this proposition is
guaranteed by excluding the Almighty from the category of ordinary
humans. In other words, since the Almighty “died as a human but was
resurrected as a god”—meaning the Almighty is no longer a human but has
become a god—we can accept the statement “(All humans except for) the
Almighty will eventually die.” |

(universal
