Born in Detroit, but having moved to San Francisco (with a master's degree from Stanford), Susan Mazer was perhaps the first musician to use the harp in an electronic context (as early as the 1970s), and, when she began to do so on a commercial scale, with The Fire In The Rose (Rising Sun, 1985), she did so in a less naive manner than Vollenweider (the synthesizer is a lyricon). She then recorded mostly as a duo with her husband Dallas Smith: Inner Rhythms (1986), Timeless (1988), Summit (1988), The Still Point (1990), Carol for the Planet (1991), Magic Garden (1994), Heartsong (1997), Enduring Spirit (1999), The Circle of Life (2004).
Dallas Smith (a flautist, saxophonist and clarinet player) recorded several albums with Steven Halpern and then his own
Stellar Voyage (Rising Sun, 1984), where he mixed his acoustic woodwinds with the Lyricon wind synthesizer, the first electronic wind instrument.
