Suso Saiz (Cadiz, 1957) is a Spanish guitarist who invented a cosmic style of playing the guitar over timbres worthy of the most hallucinatory electronics. After graduating from the Madrid Conservatory, in 1980 Saiz formed the Orquestra De las Nubes, an ensemble with which he carried out experiments such as Me Paro Cuando Suena (1984), El Orden del Azar (1985), and Manual del Usuario (1987).
On his own, starting with the various artists compilation Musica Esporadica (No CD, 1982) and initially through his first albums Prefiero el Naranja (1984), En La Piel Del Cruce (Grabaciones Accidentales, 1986), and Confidencias (1987), he primarily explored trance through two fundamental elements: primordial rhythms and ambient harmonies. In his hands, the quintessential instrument of Spanish folklore, the guitar, became a spaceship launched into cosmic depths. Saiz also participates in Steve Roachs Suspended Memories.
Hypnotics (Slow Food, 1988), perhaps his masterpiece, defined his
dense, cosmic trance for guitar drones.
Simbolos (Musique Intemporelle, 1992), featuring Jorge Reyes and Glen Velez, gave it an almost metaphysical depth.
Mirrors Of Pollution (Karonte, 1994) is ambient music
for guitar, piano, trumpet, electronics and percussion.
Un Hombre Oscuro (Hyades, 1994), that collects live material from 1990
to 1994, returns him to what he does best:
otherwordly guitar symphonies.
The vast majority of his recordings are film or tv soundtracks.
