Daniel Schell (Belgium, 1944 was originally a minimalist composer who fused avantgarde pattern repetition and popular folk music, but then went on to compose in a more traditional vein.

In 1990, he formed the chamber Ensemble Karo, that has released If Windows They Have (Crammed Discs, 1986), The Secret of Bwlch (Crammed Discs, 1991) and Gira Girasole (Maso, 1995), which contains variations on Italian folk songs.

Schell has composed the operas Hygiene de l'Assassin (1995), Les Combustibles (1997) and Le Sabotage Amoureux, as well as chamber and vocal music.

Schell formed Cos that released Postaeolian Train Robbery and Viva Boma.

His approach to Indian music has yielded works such as A Concerto for Sarangi and Strings.

Schell has also composed the piano studies Quelques Beaux Carreaux (1983), The electro-acoustic sextet L'Enfoui Fuit (1990), The Travelling Musician (2000) for brass quintet, Optimal Studies (2000), a set of duets, trios, quartets, quintets for various groups of instruments, the Ishango Oratorio (2003) for guitar, saxophone, bass, narrating voice, choir, African percussion, that mixes jazz, classical and ethnic music, etc.
