Dopo Lev Kulesov il miglior rappresentante della scuola "americamista" fu Boris Barnet, gia` protagonista di Miss Mend/ The Adventures of the Three Reporters (1926), un lungo film spionesco comico co-diretto con Fyodor Otsep (piu` di quattro ore, a three-part serial), adapted from Marietta Shaginian’s "Mess Mend", fu uno dei dominatori della cinematografia "leggera" degli anni venti con Devushka s Korobkoy/ The Girl with the Hat Box (1927), satira della borghesia, e Dom Na Trubnoj/ The House on Trubnaya (1928), una satira sulla NEP. Barnet vi si dimostro` affezionato alle piccole vicende della vita quotidiana.

Okraina/ Outskirts (1933), il suo primo film sonoro, è la tenera e raffinata storia della figlia di un ciabattino che vive in epoca zarista in una cittadina di provincia: il film segue la sua semplice esistenza, ora allegra ora triste, con intensa partecipazione.

His career languished after he got in trouble with the censorship but he was rehabilitated by the spy film Podvig Razvedchika/ Secret Agent (1947).
