Michael Bay (USA, 1965), born and raised in Los Angeles,
a 1988 graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena
originally a director of commercials and music videos,
debuted with
Bad Boys (1995), the film that launched the career of Will Smith,
and
The Rock (1996), starring Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage.
He turned to sci-fi with Armageddon (1998), written by Jeffrey Jacob Abrams and Jonathan Hensleigh,
a genre to which he gave, after
the war drama Pearl Harbor (2001), written by Randall Wallace,
and
Bad Boys II (2003), the spectacular movies
The Island (2005) and
Transformers (2007).
The latter became a successful film series.
The next installments were: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009),
Transformers - Dark of the Moon (2011),
Transformers - Age of Extinction (2014) and
Transformers - The Last Knight (2017).
He then directed the crime movie Pain & Gain (2013), written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely the war movie 13 Hours (2016), written by Chuck Hogan, the political thriller 6 Underground (2019), written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, and Ambulance (2022), a remake of Laurits Munch-Petersen's thriller Ambulancen (2005).
