The novelist Zivojin "Zika" Pavlovic
crafted portraits of doomed loser, like in Kad Budem Mrtav i Beo/ When I Am Dead and Gone (1967), written by Ljubia Kozomara and Gordan Mihic, the film that launched actor Dragan Nikolic besides the already famous actress Ruzica Sokic, and Budenje Pacova/ The Rats Woke Up (1967), and made gloomy rural Slovenian melodramas like Rdece Klasje/ Red Wheat (1970) and Let Mrtve Price/ The Flight of a Dead Bird (1973).
He also made Zive Vode/ Living Water (1961), Zaseda/ The Ambush (1969), starring Milena Dravic, which was banned because it exposed the falsy myths of Tito's communism, the partisan movie Hajka/ Manhunt (1977), starring Rade erbedzija and Vuisic. Another success was the drama Zadah Tela/ Body Scent (1983). Na Putu za Katangu/ On the Road to Catanga (1987), drenched in despair and fatalism: a man returns to the village to sell his inheritance and with the money emigrate; a woman returns there to sing in the miners' club; neither will leave.
