Fantasmi a Roma/ Ghosts of Rome (1961)

Il Magnifico Cornuto/ The Magnificent Cuckold (1964) is a sex comedy adapted from Fernand Crommelynck's farce "Le Cocu Magnifique".

Psychological and social insight complement each other in his female portraits: defenseless, lonely women searching for an identity in a bourgeois environment gripped by anxiety.

La Parmigiana/ The Girl from Parma (1963): a young woman, in order to escape boredom, allows herself to be seduced by a young man but, once abandoned, goes from man to man until she ends up prostituting herself.

La Visita/ The Visit (1963)

Io la Conoscevo Bene/ I Knew Her Well (1965) tells instead the story of a provincial woman who tries to find a place for herself in Rome—both professionally and emotionally—but finds only illusions and disappointments, leading eventually to suicide.

Pietrangeli was also screenwriter for Luchino Visconti (Ossessione), Pietro Germi (Gioventu` Perduta), Luigi Comencini (La Tratta delle Bianche), Alberto Lattuada (La Lupa) and Roberto Rossellini (Dov’e` la Liberta`, Europa ’51, I Sette Peccati Capitali).

Pietrangeli died in 1968.
