Shimmer Wince (Intakt, 2023) is the latest Anna Webber's work. The reedist composer, here on tenor sax and flutes, leads Adam O'Farrill (trumpet), Mariel Roberts (cello), Elias Stemeseder (synthesizer) and Lesley Mok (drums) focusing on the "just intonation", i.e. an ancient tuning system based on the natural harmonics and resonances of notes. The seven pieces performed were recorded in december 2022 in a New York studio. Webber later edited the session. Still by Anna Webber, Capacious Aeration (Tzadik, 2023) features her collaboration on tenor sax and flute along with Matt Mitchell (piano). They recorded five tracks in july 2023, notably the 28-minute Re-aeration, composed by Mitchell, whereas the other four come by Webber.
Simpletrio2000 (december 2023) was performed in a trio along with Matt Mitchell (piano) and John Hollenbeck (drums), while the leader plays also flutes. This is the third album by the trio, after Simple (august 2013) and Binary (may 2016). Webber also plays flute in the vinyl Vision Is The Identity (Out Of Your Head, 2024), credited to New York-based composer Christopher Hoffman (who plays cello, electric cello, drum programming and synth), in a septet featuring Henry Threadgill (alto sax), Frank LoCrasto (keyboards), Bill Campbell (drums), Ryan Scott (guitar) and Alfredo Colon (electronic wind instrument). The vinyl was recorded by each of the musicians, in several 2023 sessions.
The ltd ed. Unseparate (Out Of Your Head, 2025) documents eleven pieces by Anna Webber (tenor sax and flute) along with Angela Morris, who plays the same instruments and leads her big band, a lineup comprising of Jay Rattman (alto and soprano saxes, clarinet, flute), Charlotte Greve (alto sax, flute, clarinet), Adam Schneit (tenor sax, clarinet), Lisa Parrott (baritone sax, bass clarinet), the trumpet quartet of Nolan Tsang, Ryan Easter, Jake Henry, and Kenny Warren, the trombone quartet of Tim Vaughn, Zekkereya El-Magharbel, Jen Baker, and Reginald Chapman, Yuhan Su (vibraphone), Dustin Carlson (guitar), Marta Sanchez (piano), Adam Hopkins (bass) and Jeff Davis (drums). This is their second experience. Unseparate was instead recorded in august 2024.
George is the name of a project founded by Anna Webber (tenor saxophone and flute), Aurora Nealand (voice, alto and soprano saxes and keyboards), Chiquita Magic (keyboards, voice and piano), and John Hollenbeck (drums and piano). Hollenbeck composed eight pieces for this quartet, which recorded them (along with two covers) in a Canadian studio in january 2022. Out Of Your Head released their performance under the title of Letters to George.
