Does Meaning Exist? "Nominalism" is a
centuries-old philosophical faith according to which "universals"
exist only in our mind and language. We tend to assign them a reality of their
own when, in reality, they are just conventions used by our minds and our
language. At the other end of the
spectrum, Platoclaimed that ideas exist in a world of their own, independent of
