Texan blues guitarist Albert Collins, a cousin of Lightnin' Hopkins, was the leader of the Rhythm Rockers in 1949, at the age of 17. His instrumental pieces, from The Freeze (1958) to Don't Lose Your Cool (1963), via his tour de force Frosty (1962), defined a "cool sound" at the guitar based on loud sustained one-chord trebles and minor-key tunings, often accompanied with three horns, organ, bass and drums. During the 1970s, he was a dominant figure in blues music with spectacular performances (Don't Lose Your Cool, 1963; Conversation With Collins). His guitar style was highly influential on the younger blues generation.
