Blinker The Star was the project of Jordon Zadorozny (born in Ontario, but residing in Montreal), who basically played all the instruments on the debut album, Blinker the Star (Vibra Cobra, 1994), recorded in his basement on a home recorder. Songs like J-Bird sound like tributes to Kurt Cobain.

Boasting at least a rhythm section, A Bourgeois Kitten (A&M, 1996) was the album that turned the project into an international sensation, sounding like a concentrate of FM-radio stereotypes, from the tribal and space grunge of Black Eyes, Dull Care to the power-ballad My Dog via the usual parade of Nirvana imitations. A small dose of originality filters out from the frenzied folk-rock rigmarole Bluish Boy and from the quiet nightmare of Earman .

The band moved to Los Angeles and recorded August Everywhere (DreamWorks, 1999). Zadorozny seems desperate to prove his eclectic talent as composer and runs the gamut from the orchestral glam-rock of Below The Sliding Doors to the grunge power-ballad of All Dreamed Out.
