Italian singer-songwriter Vinicio Capossela (born in Germany) is a worthy disciple of Paolo Conte. All'Una e Trentacinque Circa (1990) was still in the vein of the folksingers, but Modi' (1991) suddenly introduced a skilled craftman of Latin-tinged ballads. Camera a Sud (1993) improved both the arrangements and the vocal delivery. Capossella achieved a veritable transfiguration of European, American and Latin-American traditions on Il Ballo di San Vito (1996) and especially Canzoni a Manovella (2000), his most eclectic and surreal work. L'Indispensabile (2003) is career retrospective.

Ovunque Proteggi (2006) is his most eclectic and accomplished album yet, running the gamut from folk music to chamber electro-acoustic lieder (notably a new eight-minute version of an old song, S.S. dei Naufragati).
