Formed in 1992 in Canada and long based in Toronto, Treble Charger made their debut with NC-17 (Sonic Unyon, 1994), featuring hardcore little songs such as Red and Dress.

The EP Self=Title (Sonic Unyon, 1995) tones down the drive and brings the sound back to the era of early XTC or early Cars. The songs often settle into a compromise form of folk-rock, in the orbit of psychedelic Byrds, first with the velvety harmonies of Morale, then with the solemn progression of Even Grable. Greig Nori and Bill Priddle are decent songwriters, but too sentimental, lacking backbone. Brit-pop material, in short.

Maybe It's Me (RCA, 1997) and Wide Awake Bored (RCA, 2000) are generic arena-rock middle-of-the-road fests.
