The German project X Marks The Pedwalk specialized in dance music influenced by techno and industrial music. It was formed by two multi-instrumentalists who used the pseudonyms Raive Yarx and Sevren Ni-Arb (to be read backwards), the latter also active as A-Head, Ringtailed Snorter, U-Tek.

X Marks rose to prominence with the singles Paranoid Illusions (Zoth Ommog), The Trap and Cenotaph, which place layers of electronic keyboards in front of the techno beat.

Human Desolation (Zoth Ommog, 1993) is a collection of robotic dances driven by electronic polyrhythms and melodies of a gothically evil synth-pop (I See You. The long Desolation recalls the existential tones of the Pet Shop Boys and Paranoid Illusions those of A Night In Bangkok. The pantomime reaches Wagnerian intensity with the stormy sonorities of Relapse.

Meshwork instead declines towards increasingly commercial pop and techno sounds.

The Killing Had Begun (Zoth Ommog, 1994), the mini-album Facer and Drawback (Zoth Ommog, 1997) instead retreated into atmospheric synthpop.

Sevren Ni-Arb is also active in Hyperdex-1-Sect with Sharp of New Mind.

Look Back In The Mirror (CDP, 2001) is an anthology of Ringtailed Snorter (electronic body music, rather conventional).

X Marks' Sevren Ni-Arb is also the brain behind the project Shunt, whose Profane Groove (21st Circuitry, 1998) offers pounding, abrasive, sequencer-heavy, industrial dances with gothic overtones such as the irresistible and atmospheric White Skin and Trapped In My World, coupled with pure techno delight in Leave That Fear Away, and with high melodrama in the instrumental score of Take Off. Rather than the gloom and doom of Ghost Of A Life and Secret Life, which basically update Joy Division for the New Order crowd, the album is worth a listen for the thundering polirhythms and complex textures/dynamics of Suffer and Shout and Pyromaniac. These are manic pieces that embody the same devastating energy of Nine Inch Nail without the attitude.
