Argentine, a New York-based trio fronted by guitarist and vocalist Ian Carpenter, specializes in slow-tempo pop songs that evoke previous specialists of the genre such as Red House Painters and Galaxie 500. There are many delights on In Other Fictions (Pehr, 2004): the Coldplay-ian melody of The World Gets Younger, the gospel organ that propels the refrain of Fresh Inventions, the lulling dreamy refrain of Slumberside, the wavering organ and the naive piano that turn Bowling Green into a cosmic hymn.
