Extra Golden was originally a collaboration between
Ian Eagleson and Alex Minoff, based in Washington, and
vocalist Otieno Jagwasi and drummer Onyango Wuod Omari of Kenya.
The highlights of Ok-Oyot System (2006) are actually the two lengthy
jams composed by the Africans,
Ilando Gima Onge and Nyajondere, each a successful fusion of
of benga, pop and funk.
Jagwasi died before the album was released.
Undeterred the white duo and
Onyango Wuod Omari
hired Kenyan guitarist Opiyo Bilongo
to record Hera Ma Nono (2007), that contains
Jakolando and
Love Hijackers in a style a bit more rocking and a bit more funky.
Thank You Very Quickly (2009) contains Gimakiny Akia that is
almost hard-rock by their standards, as well as the festive Fantasies Of The Orient. The mood of the music has changed, embracing the
danceable and anthemic spirit of Afro-pop of the 1970s.
