Gasoline, the project of French DJ Yoann Letard, recorded
a clever post-modernist take on hip-hop:
A Journey Into Abstract Hip-Hop (2002).
It is a varied and smooth collection, from
The Hardest for piano, scratching and multiple vocals to
the Japanese kitsch parody Geisya and
the Arabic-tinged Downtown Beirut
via the jazzy On The Run,
but a bit monotonous over 17 songs.
The project dissolved after
Snap Your Neck Back (2005).
