British-born
Kate "KT" Tunstall
became a world-wide star with Suddenly I See, originally buried inside
Eye To The Telescope (2004 - Virgin, 2006),
a blues-rock shuffle sung in a casual tone. The album's other single was the
inferior Black Horse and the Cherry Tree.
Drastic Fantastic (2007) opted for adult-oriented muzak, with some
Sarah McLachlan
imitations (Hopeless, I Don't Want You Now).
Hold On is a bad copy of Suddenly I See.
Tiger Suit (2010) sounded amateurish when it tried to sound like
Tunstall
(the gritty hysterical funk-blues Uummannaq Song)
and disorienting when she ventured into antithetical style like the
dancefloor-ready Fade like a Shadow. The real triumph of the album
lies in the electroacoustic arrangements (notably Weirdo).
After Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon (2013),
KT Tunstall moved to Los Angeles and became a composer of film soundtracks.
Tunstall released a trilogy of albums: Kin (Caroline, 2016), Wax (Virgin, 2018) and Nut (EMI, 2022).
Face to Face (2023) contains duets with Suzi Quatro.
