The Chainsmokers (New York-based djs and producers Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall)
got started with the
exuberant electro-house of #selfie (2013) and Rookie (2013),
followed by the more conventional Roses (2015) and
Don't Let me Down (2016),
but are important for the history of future bass for
the ballad Closer (2016), a duet with
Ashley "Halsey" Frangipane co-written by Louis the Child's Frederic Kennett
that was one of the biggest hits of the year.
The decline, however, was rapid: after
Paris (2017) and
Something Just Like This (2017) with Coldplay,
they quickly disappeared from the charts.
Their albums Memories - Do Not Open (2017), The Chainsmokers (2018) and World War Joy (2019) were all terrible collections of trivial electronic dance-pop.
They returned with
So Far So Good (Columbia, 2022)
and with
the six-song EP No Hard Feelings (Columbia, 2024), which contains the
hit Addicted.
