Cimafunk

Cuban singer-songwriter Cimafunk (real name Erik Iglesias Rodriguez) rose to prominence thanks to the hit Me Voy, an imitation of Afro-funk of the 1980s, the highlight of Terapia (2017), which also contains retro' disco-funk music like Fiebre and the funk-jazz-hop shuffle Paciente. Following the success of the EP Cun Cun Pra' (2020), the second album El Alimento (2021), largely shaped by producer Jack Splash, injects generous doses of funk into Cuban music, notably the orgiastic funk shuffle Funk Aspirin (featuring guest George Clinton), the smooth, elegant and breezy Rompelo (that includes a rapping section) and the bombastic anthem Esto Es Cuba. In between the funk tributes there are nods at the Cuban tradition, like the 1950s-style cha-cha Te Quema la Bemba and the salsa-tinged Caramelo. Unfortunately the rest of the album is filler.
