Dekomodo, the project of Australian singer-songwriter Sebastian Radzikowski,
ran the gamut from
dissonant electronica, punk, jazz, and pop
on Burn the Garden (2019), from
the spastic rock of Deep Work to the
piano elegy Rainbow Coat via the jazztronica of Bricolage.
Unfortunately the longer songs, the six-minute Burn the Garden and the
seven-minute Finding Space, exceed their welcome.
Songs mutate even faster on Spider (2020).
Astral opens with suspenseful cosmic music, then becomes an anemic piano lied, then indulges in industrial noise, then the synth collides with jazzy piano and sax, and it all ends in some weird percussive universe.
Divide blends rap-jazz, techno debris and melancholy piano.
The limit of this method is that some of the cutest ideas get abandoned too soon
or diluted. The pounding industrial beat Blackout disappears too quickly.
There is still quite a bit of variety.
He recites Crown in a soundscape of psychedelic synth noise
and Kill 4 u in a derelict sub-jazz atmosphere.
Fur weds instrumental cacophony and punk rant.
Quay is another piano elegy, with even a hint of strings.
I Still Care (2022) is, again, many things at once, confirming
Radzikowski's talent as a composer and arranger.
New World is a mix of tropical pop and fast rapping.
Keith is an emo singer-songwriter with Caribbean polyrhythms.
The seven-minute Club 27 (perhaps the album's clownish moment) feels like a psychedelic take on easy-listening music and on New Orleans carnival music with a deluge of horns and an undercurrent of jazz piano.
The same ingredients coalesce in the sax-driven soul-jazz ballad I Still Care.
Emblematic of his confusion of styles are Sugar Crash and Abyss, both "traditional" songs that descend into musique concrete.
The seven-minute Insane is an aural delight for a few minutes before it
becomes gloomy expressionist theater. Too bad it ends in a faceless soul melody
sung by a female singer.

jazz fatiscente. Fursposa la cacofonia strumentale all’invettiva punk.
New
nella ballata soul-jazzI still care. Sugar Crash e Abysssono
emblematiche dellapropria confusione stilistica, entrambi canzoni
“tradizionali” che sfociano nella musique concrete. Insane, lunga sette
cantante.
