King Princess

New York's singer-songwriter Mikaela Straus, aka King Princess, rose to prominence with the melancholy pop-soul ballads 1950 (2018) and Talia (2018), both from the five-song EP Make My Bed (2018), which also contains Upper West Side. Cheap Queen (2019), mostly devoted to break-up songs, was musically disappointing even for fans of that tedious style, but the song Ohio (2020) did better thanks to a hard-rocking guitar riff. She again did better with the singles Only Time Makes Us Human (which harks back to house-pop of the 1990s) and House Burn Down (a rocking version of Britney Spears) than with the album Hold on Baby (2022).
