Florida's Nick Leon had a long and distinguished career as a dj and producer before his breakout hit Xtasis (2022), a collaboration with Venezuelan producer and Pedro "DJ Babatr" Corro (the godfather of the "Raptor House" rave movement). In fact he had already released many EPs:
Inorganic (International Space Tapes, 2015),
Amazonic (2016),
Totem (2018),
Refraction (2020),
Aguacero (2020),
Degrowth (2020),
Rompediscoteka (2021),
Fuego Clandestino (2020),
Degrowth (2020).
The same year that DJ Babatr debuted with Root Echoes (2025), Nick Leon
released his first album, A Tropical Entropy (2025).
The practitioner of a sophisticated science of mutating beats, Leon borrowed
beats from reggaeton, dembow and dancehall but then twisted and warped them
in an infinite number of manners.
Sometimes the result is simply an abstract electronic vignette (Entropy).
Subaquatic effects embellish Ghost Orchid (featuring fractured vocals by Ela Minus).
The post-techno locomotive R.I.P. Current doesn't sacrifice anything to the dancefloor.
Songs such as Metromover and Product Of Attraction meld spaced-out vocals and beats as if they were made of the same substance.
Ocean Apart incorporates traces of neosoul.
All these elements converge into the hit Bikini (sung by Erika de Casier), but one is left with the feeling that Leon could have done much more with those intuitions.
