Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa, an English singer of Albanian descent, became a pop star with the singles of her debut album Dua Lipa (2017), including Be the One and IDGAF. She topped these hits with bigger hits of pounding house-pop music like New Rules (2018), One Kiss (2018) and Electricity (2019), a collaboration with pop duo Silk City (Thomas "Diplo" Pentz and Mark Ronson).

Future Nostalgia (2020) is a parade of dejavus, mining the history of dance music from the 1980s to the 2010s over trivial Chic-esque beats: Future Nostalgia sets a Madonna-esque refrain in a hip-hop context, Don't Start Now harkens back to tthe golden age of house music, Levitation adds a little Latin spice a` la Shakira, all the way to the Lady Gaga impersonation of Physical (which also flirts with the bouncy synth-pop of Eurythmics). The best thing in Love Again is the keyboard riff, taken from White Town's Your Woman, and the best thing in Break My Heart is the guitar riff, taken from
Inxs Need You Tonight. A well-executed operation of plagiarism and nostalgia that quickly turns tedious. Hallucinate, composed by Sophie Frances and Samuel Lewis, is the only song that rises above mere theft. Nonetheless, Dua Lipa was Britain's most-played artist of 2020.

Cold Heart (2021), a collaboration with Elton John, topped the British charts again.
